This tour is designed for visitors who have already seen traditional distillery setups and are looking for something a little different—less focus on equipment like the Porteus mill or stills, and more on flavour, cask influence, and hands-on tasting.
The experience begins with a short visit to the stillhouse, where guests sample new make spirit while learning about the philosophy and approach behind The GlenAllachie Distillery. At this point, each guest is given a Glencairn glass—your companion for the rest of the tasting (and one you’re strongly advised not to lose).
From there, it’s a relaxed 5–10 minute walk to Warehouse 16. The stroll is easy and offers a good chance to chat with others in the small group (typically around 10 people per session).
Arriving at the warehouse, the doors open to reveal a compact but modern dunnage warehouse still in active use. Guests are free to explore and examine a diverse range of casks, including those made from Russian, Mongolian, Japanese, and Colombian oak—an unusually broad and fascinating selection.
The group then gathers for the main tasting. Seated at the back of the warehouse with a full view of the casks, attention turns to four selected casks placed front and centre. These are presented completely blind, with no information given beyond the size of each cask. The tasting relies entirely on your senses, making for a fun and often surprising experience—guesses on age, origin, and finish can vary widely among participants.
For drivers, a thoughtfully prepared driver’s kit is provided, including pre-labelled sample bottles so nothing needs to be noted down during the session.
Our tasting is guided by Matthew – Brand Home Manger, whose knowledge ranges from general whisky insights to more technical production details, making the experience engaging for both newcomers and seasoned enthusiasts.
After sampling the four warehouse drams, the group returns to the tasting room for the final two whiskies. These are hand-filled distillery exclusives available for purchase on the day. While the warehouse casks themselves are not currently for sale, one of the highlights of this experience is its ever-changing nature—as casks are emptied, new ones are introduced, creating a rotating showcase of potential hidden gems from GlenAllachie’s warehouses.
The full experience lasts approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes and is fantastic value at £55 per person. Guests who purchase a bottle from the shop receive a £5 discount. Warehouse tastings are fully booked during the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival but will continue daily from 18 May through to 31 October.
